At BCNC Physio we may recommend and use acupuncture in specific circumstances as part of a more comprehensive program targeting multiple neural and musculoskeletal systems to address certain problems. It is rarely used as a standalone treatment.

Our therapists are trained in:

  • Dry needling
  • Western acupuncture

Conditions we help treat with acupuncture include:

  • nerve pain e.g. shingles in the immunosuppressed
  • back and neck pain from joint or muscular origin
  • whiplash
  • muscle or ligament strains and sprains
  • joint pain like arthritis
  • headaches
  • recovery from surgery
  • Acupuncture and cancer

Acupuncture has become a popular complementary treatment in oncology, particularly as patients seek nonpharmacological alternatives to provide symptom control.

Research demonstrates a role for acupuncture in the following cancer symptoms: pain, nausea and vomiting, xerostomia, hot flushes, fatigue, anxiety, depression and insomnia.

Acupuncture is safe with minimal side-effects, and is clinically effective for the management of these symptoms.

BCNC Physiotherapy

The studio at BCNC Physio is purpose built and features traditional Pilates’ reformers, cadillac and wunda chair in a light-filled, pleasant environment.

While our physiotherapists use a Pilates framework, we may also include specific, targeted, therapeutic exercise to cater to clinical needs. It is more than just Pilates.

  • one-on-one
  • clinical pilates — 2–4 people per class
  • mat/small equipment based general groups (max 8 people)
  • balance classes

Prior to commencing Pilates at BCNC Physio, an assessment is required for all new clients, regardless of experience. Health fund rebates are available, with conditions.

  • Clinical Pilates — Individually prescribed and supervised programs, designed according to each individual’s assessed and ongoing needs.  In these small groups we are able to use a variety of Pilates equipment. Individual treatment, instruction and supervision is provided.
  • Pilates groups — Groups of up to 8 people being instructed in the same mat-based program, with some use of small apparatus.  Emphasis is on a balanced body work out with good variety, and education on how to perform exercises safely.
All our Pilates and exercise sessions are designed and instructed by our physiotherapists, who have undergone accredited clinical Pilates training and have a passion for this very rewarding exercise method.

Balance Classes

Our BCNC physiotherapists can provide expert advice and intervention in assessing and screening for balance impairment, and the contributing factors. Intervention can be provided on a one-to-one basis, or in a group, where appropriate. Intervention can include training exercises to address strength, flexibility, coordination, concentration, vestibular rehabilitation, as well as advice on minimising the impact of impaired balance. As with all our treatment approaches, we place great value on being holistic and responsive to each person’s individual goals and requirements. While we are very committed to providing intervention that is based on current scientific evidence, we also believe exercise should be enjoyable, satisfying, and interesting.

Our class sizes are small to allow us to ensure we provide personalised movement supervision and maintain the highest quality standards.

For every class it is recommended to:

  • wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement but not too baggy that physios can’t see body alignment
  • not eat a lot at least an hour before your session
  • bring a towel, a pair of socks and a drink bottle
